Anxiety
Today's reflection,
Pray and Praise
Philippians chapter 4:6-7
The bibel teaches us " 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
The bible teaches us not to be anxious, but some of us experience this emotion everyday. We are anxious about our uncertain future or an uncertain situations. This could be because of fear and worry about tomorrow. Interestingly, fear and worry are the synonyms of anxiety. In this blog, I share how do i overcome these emotions in my personal life?
I overcome my anxiety by simply trusting in God. I follow the simple steps mentioned in Philippians Chp.4, that is, I pray and I praise. Prayer is a time to talk to God and we offload all our emotional burdens in His presence. During this time of prayer, i remind myself and claim all the promises God has given to us, for those who believe in Him. Then, i simply wait and I try to focus on my everyday work.
In my waiting, I praise God. Giving thanks to God for who He is, for what He has done and what He is able to do. The waiting period would be very stressful and emotions would fly everywhere. That is exactly, when we should focus more on God and wait upon him. As the bible teaches us that " those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength" ( Isaiah 40:31).
In the waiting God is testing our faith. The best example of this is Abraham, the father of Faith. God told Abraham, he was to have a son and God did give him a son even in his old age. I experienced this personally, because i was waiting to conceive after few months into marriage. I prayed and i received a prophetic word from a person who prayed for me. He said i would have a son the next year and I did. I have heard similarly testimonies of women praying for several years and God blessed them. However, the point here is, after praying God is testing if our faith in him is steadfast. (James 1:12)
Additionally, the bibel teaches us that " when we pray believing we will receive" ( James 1 & Mark 11: 20-25). Believing here is waiting in faith, without doubting. Believing that God is working on it and His will, will be done. Grumbling or complaining will only leave you unhappy. Focusing on the goodness of God is important to keep your anxieties away. Instead focus on today's work. As the bible teaches us "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow has its own things. Each day has enough trouble of its own" ( Matthew 6:34).
Next time, when you are anxious about a situation try this pray, praise and wait in faith. We have a great big wonderful God. :).
